Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) Exam

The Railway Recruitment Boards various exams RRB exams such as RRB NTPC, RRB Group D, RRB JE, RRB ALP, etc. A large number of applicants apply for these Railway exams. RRB notification for various exams is released depending upon the number of vacancies and requirements of various railway departments. RRB recruitment is highly competitive and candidates must have good preparation to crack the exam.

What are the Exams in RRB?

Railway recruitments are done for Non-Technical Popular Categories, Para-Medical Categories, Ministerial and Isolated Categories, Various Posts in level 1 of 7th CPC Pay Matrix, various posts of Jr. Engineer, Depot Material Superintendent and CMA, ALP and Technicians, etc. Besides, the different railway zones also conduct individual recruitments for various posts as per their requirements. Changes in Railway Recruitment over the years

RRB exam over the years has undergone various changes in the recruitment process. Some of the major changes in railway recruitment are given below:

Online Application System

To expedite the application process, Railway Recruitment Boards have adopted the online application submission process. This allows candidates to fill out and submit the application form online. Earlier, candidates had to get the application form from the respective RRBs or by post or in Employment News or newspapers.

Computer-Based Exam

The Railways moved to Computer-Based Testing mode from pen and paper mode. Admit cards for the various RRB exams are issued online. Earlier, the admit cards were sent through the post.

Release of Answer Keys

Railway Recruitment Boards release the answer keys for its various exams. This initiative is taken with the view to ensure transparency in the exam. Candidates are also allowed to raise objections to the official answer key by paying a certain amount of fees.  

What is RRB Exam Eligibility?

The eligibility criteria vary as per the posts. RRB eligibility criteria for various exams are given below:

RRB Group D

Age Limit: 18 to 33 years

Educational Qualification: The minimum education qualification for candidates applying to the technical departments that is Civil Engineering, Mechanical, Electrical and Signal & Telecom departments) and catering wing of Railways will be Class 10 pass plus National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) granted by National Council for Vocational Training or Class 10 pass plus ITI.

RRB NTPC

Age Limit: The age limit for the undergraduate post is 18 to 30 years. The age limit for the graduate post is 18 to 33 years.

Educational Qualification:

For undergraduate posts, candidates must have passed Class 12

For graduate posts, candidates must have passed graduation

RRB JE

Age Limit: 18 to 33 years

Educational Qualification 

JE Post: An applicant must have three years Diploma in Civil Engineering/Mechanical/ Production/ Automobile / Electrical/ Electronics/ Instrumentation & Control Engineering/ Control/ Tools & Machining/ Tools & Die Making/ Computer Science/ Computer Engineering or B.Sc in Civil Engineering from a Recognized University/Institute.

DMS: Applicants need to complete a three-year Diploma in Engineering from any govt. recognized university or equivalent.

JE (IT): Candidates must have PGDCA / B.Sc. (Computer Science)/ BCA/ B.Tech. (Information Technology)/ B.Tech. (Computer Science)/ DOEACC ‘B’ level course of three years duration or equivalent.

CMA: Degree in Science with Physics and Chemistry with minimum 55 per cent marks

RRB ALP

Age Limit: 18 to 28 years.

Educational Qualification:

ALP: Must have passed Class 10/SSLC & ITI/Course Completed Act Apprentices or Diploma/Degree in Engineering.

Technician: Completed Class 10/SSLC plus ITI/ Course Completed Act Apprentices or 10+2 with Physics and Maths or Diploma in Engineering

How Can I Apply for RRB ?

The steps to fill RRB application form for various exams are given below:

  • Visit the official website-https://www.rrbcdg.gov.in/
  • Read all the information and instructions thoroughly before filling the application form
  • Click on the ‘New Registration’ link
  • Register for the exam by submitting details such as name, date of birth and father’s name, mother’s name, Aadhaar Number, SSLC/Matric registration number, year of passing, mobile number, email ID, and then submit the registration form
  • Upon registration, candidates need to verify email ID and mobile number through OTP
  • In Part I of the application page, candidates are required to provide the details of educational qualification, community, gender, religion, Ex-Servicemen, CCAA, Minority, Economically Backward Class and Age Relaxation and other details
  • In Part II of the application page, candidates are required to indicate priority/preference of the posts
  • On completion of application details, candidates are redirected to the payment page using Online Net Banking/Credit Card/Debit Card/UPI and Offline Challan
  • Candidates are required to choose the exam language
  • Candidates are required to fill the details of a valid photo ID card
  • Enter bank details to get the refund of fees
  • Candidates are required to upload their scanned images of photograph and signature as per the format
  • SC/ST candidates are required to upload the category certificates
  • Candidates are required to agree to the terms and conditions and submit the application form
